Authors & Editorial Team

Who writes and reviews our calculators.

CentCalc is built and maintained by a small team of software engineers and personal finance researchers. Every calculator is implemented by an engineer, reviewed by a second team member, and spot-checked against published authoritative sources before publication.

Tax Data Reviewers

Annual IRS & state rate verification

Each Q4 (October–November), our tax reviewers read IRS Revenue Procedure publications and state department of revenue updates to refresh federal and state tax tables for the upcoming tax year.

Our credentials — and limits

We are software engineers and personal finance researchers, not licensed financial professionals. Specifically:

  • ✅ Trained in mathematical modeling, formula implementation, and data integrity
  • ✅ Experienced in citing authoritative sources (IRS, SSA, state revenue departments)
  • Not Certified Public Accountants (CPAs)
  • Not Certified Financial Planners (CFPs)
  • Not registered investment advisors
  • Not tax attorneys

For tax preparation, investment advice, or legal matters affecting your finances, please consult a licensed professional in your jurisdiction.

How we work

  1. Build: Engineer implements calculator using peer-reviewed formulas and published tax data.
  2. Review: Second team member reviews code, formulas, and data sources.
  3. Verify: Spot-check outputs against authoritative calculators (IRS Tax Withholding Estimator, investor.gov, etc.)
  4. Publish: Calculator goes live with full methodology and FAQ.
  5. Maintain: Annual review of tax data; ad-hoc updates for law changes.
